Your Weekly Dose of Joy: Inside Jokes, Pet Name Palooza, and Home Quests

Weekly Joy

A little bit of Joyful Support directly in your inbox!

Inside jokes make me feel warm and fuzzy inside. The shared history of something you experienced with another can be such a gift. And from those shared experiences, we sometimes end up with funny nicknames. We will explore joyful support through funny nicknames this week.

Joy Happenings

From Sara: After years of hearing my friend and her husband call one another ‘Baby Das’, I finally asked ‘What is that from?’ It went back over 20 years to their high school days. They were studying Spanish together and one of them kept pronouncing ‘bebidas’ (Spanish for drinks) as ‘baby-das’. It became an inside joke and a long term nickname for one another.

From Lacey: I am realizing now that my family used to call me by nicknames but much less now, but I get so much delight when they do. To my dad I am, “Lacey the Face all over the Place,” my sister Brandye would call me Lacey Loo or just Loo, and my sister Amy called me Cheech (formally Cheech of the Cheechiest McGees). Here’s hoping one of them reads this and picks the habit back up again.

Ask a friend to share their story behind a family nickname, or go to (insert hashtag prompt here) and share your story of how you got a funny nickname.

I love, love, love how pets have many names. The name you write down on their tag and at the vet. And then the many names you call them throughout the day. Spread some joy today by posting a current or previous pet and all of the many nicknames you call them.

You can comment on our joyful prompt post, share it in The Village, or post it on your own social media with the hashtag #joyfulsupportmovement.

Home management can sometimes be a bit of a snooze fest. You could put a little laughter in the routine by giving areas in your home or routine tasks fun names.

Sara calls the kitchen/eating area in her home the ‘Dining Hall’ just to be silly.

You could call your daily chores- quests or missions.

And remember, there are always steps you can take to make your home management missions a little easier. Check out our latest blog post to learn more.

Don’t be afraid to lean into silly nick names this week. Test them out (respectfully of course), maybe one will stick and become a new way to bring you and your loved ones joy.

Now go out there and spread some joy!
