Your Weekly Dose of Joy: Cheese Dreams, Power Outages, and the Art of Hospitality

Weekly Joy

A little bit of Joyful Support directly in your inbox!

Welcome to October! This month offers plenty of opportunities for both spooky fun and warm connection. Whether you’re planning a Halloween bash, hosting a football watch party, or preparing for upcoming holiday gatherings, the spirit of hospitality is in the air.

This week, we’re focusing on the art of hospitality and hosting. We’ll explore everything from preparing yourself to be a gracious host to receiving hospitality with gratitude. And of course, we can’t forget everyone’s favorite part—snacks!

Let’s dive in.

Joy Happenings

I (Lacey) have been one of those unlucky folks affected by the recent hurricane. As a matter of fact, I’m writing this now in a coffee shop because we’re still without power. When you can’t use the basic building blocks of your life, you have to rely on the hospitality of others. This week Sara helps you take steps to be ready to extend hospitality, while I’m on the grateful receiving end of it.

We’re fortunate to live close to family where we could spend some time. We also have friends nearby who’ve helped us charge our devices. Even our insurance agent offered their office or home for us to use as needed.

While our gratitude is immense, so is the feeling of being a burden. I wanted to share my story this morning to remind you that sometimes receiving support and hospitality can be challenging, but it’s always worth it. Don’t be afraid to be supported—you don’t need to be without power to be worthy of that support! We always have the Joyful Support Village for you to give and receive that support!

Imagine you’ve won a lifetime supply of your favorite snack. How would you celebrate? Would you throw a massive snack party for all your friends? Maybe you’d create a snack fort in your living room? Or perhaps you’d embark on a snack-tasting world tour?

We’d love to hear your creative and joyful ideas! Reply to this email or tag us on social media at JoyfulSupportMovement.

I (Lacey again) asked my co-worker (who happens to be my son sitting in the coffee shop with me) this question. His answer? The muffin he’s currently eating. It felt profound to me… or maybe it was just a convenient way to get me to stop talking so he could return to watching Captain Underpants.

If Sara wins a lifetime supply of her favorite snack (a variety of fancy cheeses, by the way), she’ll be thrilled to share it with others. Sharing more cheese than Sara needs means hosting some get-togethers.

Hosting often makes people tense up, thinking of all the things that need to happen before their home is ready to welcome friends.

But fear not—Sara with a Step is here! Check out our latest blog post, Guest Prepping Your Home (with as little stress as possible), for small, actionable steps to prepare for sharing your lifetime supply of snacks with others.

And there you have it, friends! We’ve journeyed through hospitality, snack fantasies, and even power outages. Remember, whether you’re hosting a spooky Halloween bash or simply lending a helping hand to a neighbor, you’re spreading joy in your own unique way. As we embrace this cozy autumn season, let’s keep our hearts and homes open to the warmth of connection. After all, life’s sweetest moments often come wrapped in the simplest gestures of kindness. So go ahead, share that muffin, open that door, or simply lend an ear – you never know how much joy you might spark!

Now go out there and spread some joy!
