Joy Happenings

On Sharing the Middle last week, Lacey chatted with Jori O’Neal. Their discussion was candid, revealing, and full of challenges faced. Jori gave some wonderful insight into overcoming her challenges and how it affected her.

Sometimes it takes us reflecting on our story to realize how amazing we are in overcoming obstacles. Take some time to really think about some of your obstacles so you can recognize how amazing you are.

Think about a challenge you faced recently. How did you overcome it, and what did you learn about yourself in the process?

12 years ago, Sara found herself isolated on a dirt road with an infant and no transportation. (Don’t worry, she had a house and was safe, just isolated.) She wanted to make dinner and needed an onion. An onion doesn’t seem like a challenge. It doesn’t seem like the origin of a story. But it is. Sara had to call a friend (shoutout Theresa!) and ask for a favor. It was an important moment for Sara to learn to ask for help. Theresa showed up like the angel that she is with a smile on her face and an onion in her hand, while Sara walked to meet her with a fussy baby on her hip and a tear in her eye. Sara started her journey of learning to ask for help. Learning that is where friendships are founded and strengthened. That the flip side of giving help is asking for help. That there is joy in asking for an onion, and seeing a friend.

Facing challenges in life is unavoidable. The question is, what tools are in your toolbox to help you navigate the challenge to figure out the next step to take?

As the holiday season approaches, take a step for your mental health so that YOU can enjoy the season and not just let it be a source of stress.

We’ve got lots of ideas (and holiday puns) in this week’s blog post.

As we wrap up this week’s newsletter, remember that facing challenges is a normal part of life. Whether it’s something as simple as needing an onion or as complex as navigating the holiday season, each challenge presents an opportunity for growth and connection. Don’t hesitate to reach out for support when you need it, and take pride in the steps you’re taking to overcome obstacles. Your resilience is inspiring, and we’re here to support you every step of the way. Keep spreading joy, asking for help when needed, and taking care of your mental health. Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities for joy and personal growth.

Now go out there and spread some joy!
