I (Sara) love getting back to basics. A reminder of why we are doing a task, what the goal is, and how to do it. Sort of a refresh button meets an ounce of invigoration. So let’s talk Story.
Why is Story important in Joyful Support: Story helps us define what is going on in our world and how we feel about it. Just like having a map and plotting a course, you need to know where you are first before anything else can happen. Otherwise, you can end up wandering around not going anywhere. If you feel stuck and confused, Story can be a tool to help.
The goal with Story: Once you identify what is happening in your world and the feelings that are coming along with it, the goal is that by defining it and giving it shape, you will feel a little less burden, a little more clarity of all the factors at play, and possibly gain insight on what needs to happen to help you get through it.
How to do the Story Step: There is no wrong way to share your story. You can share it with yourself inside your mind, or say it out loud with a caring person. You can write it down for your eyes only, or share it with a friend. Your story is how YOU feel and see the situation. There is no grade, no evaluation, and no wrong way.
What is most important is that the story is met with compassion. Compassion for yourself, or if that isn’t happening, then compassion from supportive people in your world. If this sounds like something you would like to know more about and have a place to share your story, consider the Joyful Support Village. We are always here to listen to your story.
